Instead, they’re in a drawing room, a smoking room, a library, exactly where the couple placed them. It’s this coherence that gives the visit its value, more than the sheer number of masterpieces. Who might find it less appealing
Modern art lovers, rushed groups, and families with strollers (which must stay at the entrance). The private apartment rooms are small and get crowded on Saturday afternoons. Coming at 10 a.m. or Friday evening transforms the experience – see the best time to visit.
What I’d add
The tea salon, in the former dining room beneath its painted ceiling, is open without a ticket. And once a season, the salons can be visited after closing, during a Verdi opera performed among the furniture. It’s the only way I know to see the grand salon without the crowds – see opera evenings.
